Ember...

I’m reading a book called, “The City of Ember”. At the age of twelve in the city of Ember children are assigned work. The mayor comes to their class and he asks them to draw a job from the hat he brings in. Doon Harrow draws the job “messenger” (which is a very wanted job) but he asks Lina Mayfleet to trade and she drew the job (pipe works laborer). But now Lina is a messenger and she delivers messages across Ember for .20 cents each no matter how far she travels. Lina’s parents died early in her life so now she lives with her younger sister Poppy and Grandmother. Doon wants to be underground because that’s where the generator is and Doon knows that it needs to be fixed and he has ideas about how to fix it. Ember is a strange town that is lit by the lights on the street and not by the sun in the sky. Surrounding Ember is complete and absolute darkness. The lights in Ember are beginning to fade and the supplies and food are at there all-time low and Ember is beginning to lose hope except for the hope racing inside the lives Doon and Lina….
